If you’re looking for your a delicious, filling (but light) lunch that lets you continue to run around NYC the Donburi lunch spacial at Cha An could be perfect for you. Genmai tea paired with Japanese Donburi and just overall great, un-intrusive service for $15 is one hell of a deal and totally worth it.
If you’re unfamiliar with Donburi, fear not. I was too until I tried it here. Donburi is a delicious Japanese rice bowl dish. The one I ordered at Cha An was the tuna tataki, described on the menu as “seared tuna with a buttery, soy sauce glaze with hints of citrus.” The Genmai tea, a classic green tea blended with puffed rice, complimented the rice bowl perfectly making this late lunch exactly what I was looking for.
I visited Cha An for the first time flying solo. It was a great place to just sit and relax with a book and some tea, while still receiving excellent service in the way of refiling the hot water for my teapot, and simply being well cared for as a patron.
I like to keep these short and to the point. If you find yourself in the Lower East Side and are looking to dine on a budget – but not a McDonalds budget – check out Cha An!
